What are the application deadlines and move-in dates?
| Semester | Priority Application Deadline | Official Move-In Date |
| Summer 2009 | March 15, 2009 | May 29, 2009* |
| Fall 2009 | April 15, 2009 | August 25, 2009* |
| Spring 2010 | November 15, 2009 | TBD |
*Date is subject to change
- Please make sure to apply early as space in Housing is limited.
- Applications received after the above-noted priority deadlines will be placed on a waiting list.
- Three-bedroom single and one-bedroom double occupancy spaces are very scarce and rarely available to new residents.
- Applying by the priority deadline will improve your chances, but will not guarantee you a space in a three-bedroom single or one-bedroom double.
When do I pay the $30 Application Fee?
- University Housing applicants are required to pay a $30 non-refundable Application Fee at the time they submit their application. Unfortunately, we cannot process applications received without the $30 Application Fee.
- If you previously paid the $30 Application Fee and were NOT offered a space in Housing for the semester you'd originally applied for, then you may carry that fee over for ONE (1) semester only.
When do I pay the $300 Security Deposit?
- After we have received your application for University Housing, we will send you a letter asking you to submit a $300 Security Deposit. You do not need to send in your security deposit with your application.
- Depending on when your application is received, you may be asked to submit your security deposit at the same time as your first rent payment
Will my Financial Aid help pay for rent?
- When you apply for Financial Aid, you will need to indicate on the application that you want on-campus housing so that your total award reflects the cost of living on campus.
- If you are receiving Financial Aid, you may defer your rent payment until your award is disbursed. You will just need to give the Housing office a copy of your Financial Aid Award Letter.
- Please be aware that the $300 Security Deposit cannot be deferred and you are responsible for paying it when it is requested by our office.
- Three-bedroom single occupancy applicants will also be asked to submit a $970 advance rent payment that cannot be deferred. The $970 will be asked for after your deposit has been received.
How are roommates assigned?
- If you know other students who currently live or will be living in University Housing, you can request them by name and every effort will be made to place you in the same apartment. Please make sure that you and your preferred roommate(s) request each other and that you are choosing the same apartment type.
- If you do not know anyone with whom you might want to share an apartment, roommates will be assigned to you based on your answers to the Roommate Compatibility Questionnaire. That questionnaire is sent to you later in the application process.
- While every effort is made to accommodate specific roommate requests and to match you with compatible roommates, Housing cannot guarantee that you will get the people you requested or that you will get a completely compatible roommate.
Can I apply for Housing before I am admitted to CSUDH?
- Yes, you can apply for Housing before knowing your admission status. In fact, you should apply for Housing at the same time you apply to the University. This increases your chances of getting into Housing and of getting the apartment type you prefer, especially if you are requesting a three-bedroom single occupancy apartment or one-bedroom double occupancy apartment.
- In case you apply to Housing and are later denied admission to the University, any deposit or rental fees paid will be refunded in full.
What if I am not offered a space in Housing?
- If you are on the waiting list for a particular semester and you are not offered a space in Housing, your application is NOT automatically forwarded to the next semester; i.e., if you were on the waiting list for Spring 2009, your application will not be carried over to Summer 2009 or Fall 2009 automatically. If you want Housing for Summer 2009 or Fall 2009, you must submit a new application.
- If you previously paid the $30 Application Fee and were NOT offered a space in Housing for the semester you'd originally applied for, then you may carry that fee over for ONE (1) semester only.
Does CSUDH offer meal plans to students?
Yes, Campus Dining Services' Nutritional Meals Program ensures our students eat well-balanced meals. For more information, download the brochure(PDF). In addition, every University Housing apartment has a kitchen equipped with a stove, oven and refrigerator, so residents also may do their own grocery shopping and cooking.
