Wireless Internet Setup Instructions for Windows Vista

Use these step-by-step instructions to configure your computer for wireless internet connection.

1. Click Start, go to Control Panel.

2. Switch to Classic View & Click "Network and Sharing Center".

3. Click "Manage wireless networks"

4. Click "Add" button

5. Click "Manually create a network profile"

6. If network is in the "tree" you may double-click

7. Add the SSID/Network name

8. Change security type to "802.1x"

9. Encryption type should automatically change to "WEP", if not do so now.

10. After the network has been added, click "Change connection settings".

11. Under the "connection" tab, you should see the network name.

12. Click the "security" tab; Click "Settings" (on the right, just below the Encryption type)

13. Under "Protected EAP Properties", un-check the "Validate server certificate"

14. Also make sure the "Enable Fast Reconnect" & "Enable Quarantine checks" boxes ARE checked.

15. Click the "Configure" button on the lower right side.

16. Un-check the "Automatically use my Windows logon name and password."

17. Finally, make sure you hit "ok" after every action, or the settings will go back to default.

18. Hit "ok" until you get back to "Manage wireless networks."

19. You should now see the list of networks in the "tree."

In conclusion...

• You should receive a prompt to "Click here to Validate Certificate" (lower right ride, near the Time).
• It will prompt you to enter a Username, Password, Domain (LEAVE Domain BLANK).
• The information should be the same as your TORO WEB / BLACK BOARD account.
• New & Transfer Students may need to wait until their account has been created in the University IT Department.
• If your login information does not work, you can go to Welch Hall, D160. You will have to login at the Computer Lab to verify your Login & Password . (You may not be able to login if you are not in good standing with the University.)
• Also, even if you changed your TORO WEB / BLACK BOARD Account Password, it does not mean it will change for the University Housing Wireless Network. Ex. Username: John Doe (jdoe2) Password: 040485 (April 4, 1985)
• Each student account is good for usually 4 months. (Student accounts are created as follows: fall, spring, summer and winter sessions.)
