Recognizing
the importance of volunteers and the impact of their
efforts is what the Office of Student Life Volunteerism
and Community Service Programs are all about. Volunteers
clearly keep the wheels of progress and development
moving in so many ways, all across the country. The
Office of Student Life (OSL) has recently implemented
numerous programs to keep the wheels of progress and
development moving on the CSUDH Campus and within the
surrounding communities

CSUDH
Serves: CSUDH Serves was inaugurated on the Dominguez
Hills campus in 1999 with a successful year of lectures, fairs,
and community service projects. Now, student groups and campus
offices, departments, and individuals provide community service
on a regular basis through a variety of on and off-campus
food, toy, and clothing drives, cleanup projects such as beaches,
schools, parks, and roadways. Direct contact with those in
need is common through support of area Boys & Girls Clubs,
Shelters, Literacy Programs, Missions, Churches and Schools.
The Fall 2005 Semester CSUDH Serves week is scheduled for
November 7-11, 2005. The entire CSUDH community is invited
to SERVE. Make A Difference Day 2005 is October 22nd!
Campus
Volunteer Bank: The Office of Student Life targeted
the 2000-2001 academic year as the "Year of the Volunteer."
Beginning with the Fall Semester, volunteer faculty, staff,
and most importantly, students are needed to assist the University
and the OSL with implementing campus-wide events. Annually,
volunteers are needed for the following events: Welcome Week;
New Student Orientations; CSUDH Serves; Homecoming and Toro
Days; Unity Fest and Commencement. Contact us at (310) 243-2081
to get your volunteer questions answered. If you would like
to volunteer, please request a Volunteer Bank Registration
Form at adowell@csudh.edu
to have form emailed to your or call (310) 243-2081 to have
the form provided in hardcopy.
Volunteerism
and Community Service ClearingHouse: What would The
Year of the Volunteer be without ample opportunities for members
of the CSUDH Community to involve themselves and contribute?
This fall the OSL is working diligently to develop a comprehensive
list of volunteer and community service opportunities. Your
input, referrals, and inquiries are welcome, as we need your
help in developing this clearinghouse of agencies, entities,
and communities that need assistance. Please e-mail your responses
to adowell@csudh.edu
to suggest or provide clearinghouse resources. Please be sure
to include contact information for phone or e-mail
