Theatre Arts Department is designed to guide students through creative
development and performance. Students earning an undergraduate degree
at CSU, Dominguez Hills will be learning the theatrical profession of
set design, acting, light design, costume design, and other highly skilled
professional levels of the theatre and other forms of entertainment. Theatre
Arts Students will also participate in a highly production-oriented program
that's fun and challenging. |

Objectives
Students
are given considerable choice in planning their academic careers due
to the flexible course requirements for both the major and minor programs.
The Theatre Arts major, when combined with any of the many minor fields
offered through the University curriculum, prepares you for a number
of pursuits in theatre. Specifically, students are prepared for the
profession as actors, directors, technical directors, scene designers,
and costume designers. The avenues open to you include community and
children's theatre, educational and professional theatres.

The
Speech Program
Through
our active speech program, you begin to develop skills that are
applicable in many fields, while having the chance to compete in intercollegiate
tournaments throughout the West. Participants in the forensics program
acquire forensics leadership and research skills needed for professional
career advancement. Competitive events in oral interpretation, prose,
poetry, impromptu speech, and others, build self confidence and cooperative
competition in our students.

The
Production Program
The Theatre
Department has an ambitious production program that demands and develps
our students' commitment to theatre and their professional attitudes.
Approximately six major productions are presented each season, including
contemporary plays, musicals, classics, ethnic plays and children's
theatre productions. Our award-winning University Theatre seats 485
and features state of-the art lighting and sound systems, scene shop,
costume lab, dressing rooms, offices, rehearsal studio, box office,
green room and galleries.
As a student
majoring in Theatre Arts, you'll find your involvement and responsibility
to the program extending beyond course requirements. The Theatre Arts
Department thrives upon communication and cooperation-it is a social
enterprise where everyone pulls together to create a successful performance.
Your active participation in the departmental production program makes
you part of tightly-knit community of students and faculty who form
a foundation for a healthy learning and working enviornment.
