COSTA MESA, Calif.--Frank Perez' 2-run single
in the top of the sixth inning proved to be the game-winner for
the Toros as they cruised to an 8-1 non-conference victory on the
road at Vanguard University.
The Toros (2-0) made it 3-0 in the seventh. CF
Mike Milstead led off the inning with a double and was sacrificed
over to third by 2B Jesus Hernandez. After SS Eric Pringle walked,
LF Jason Pruitt hit an RBI groundout making it 3-0.
After Vanguard (2-6) scored a run in the bottom
of the eighth, CSUDH tacked on five more runs in the top of the
ninth to account for the final margin. With one out, Pringle
walked then stole second base. An out later, pinch hitter Tony
Marquez hit a double scoring Pringle.
Toros designated hitter Frank Perez reached on
an error which scored Marquez from second making it 5-1. After a
Danny Jacobs walk, C Edgar Esqueda hit an RBI double making it
6-1. Then 3B Damien Lopez closed out the scoring with a 2-run
single to left.
RHP Rick Moore (1-0) pitched the first seven
innings to earn the win. Moore allowed 5 hits, no walks and struck
out 3 batters. Closer Brian Cortes pitched the final 1-2/3 innings
to earn his first save of the year.
CSUDH was led at the plate by Frank Perez going
1-4 with 2 RBI and Damien Lopez who went 1-5 with 2 RBI.
The Toros are back in action against this same
Vanguard team at Toro Field Thursdaybeginning at 2 PM. |
