CARSON, Calif.-Grand Canyon swept today's California Collegiate Athletic Association doubleheader over Cal State Dominguez Hills winning the first game 4-3 in 11 innings then holding on for a 4-2 win in the nightcap today at Toro Field.

In the first game, CSUDH took an early lead 1-0 without the aid of a hit. RF Joe Gevas was hit by a pitch then advanced to second and third on a wild pitch and a passed ball. LF Mike Roux's groundout plated Gevas for the early score.

GCU took a 2-1 lead in the fourth when 3B Joey Reiman hit an RBI single with runners on second and third. LF Travis Kaats then knocked in the go-ahead run on a sacrifice fly to left field to make it 2-1. But the Toros would answer with a run in the bottom of the inning on a run-scoring single by 3B Damien Lopez to knot the game up.

The Antelopes took the lead again in the sixth on a passed ball with runners on the corners and two outs. Cal State Dominguez Hills tied it again with a run in the eighth inning when with two outs, Gevas reached on a fielding error by Canyon 1B Chris Raymond. Roux then doubled him home sending a ball to the left centerfield gap to make it 3-3. It stayed that way until the 11th when pinch hitter Matt Denny's bases loaded groundout scored the game-winning run.

RHP Jon Fitz (1-0) earned the win tossing the final 3 hitless innings for GCU. RHP Harry Trejo (0-1) took the loss also pitching 3 innings of no-hit ball in relief striking out 4 but walking 3.

In the nightcap, Canyon (9-6, 4-2 CCAA) jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first on a 2-run double by DH Greg Serrano. But the Toros would get even on a long opposite field 2-run homer by Joe Gevas in the third inning.

The Antelopes took the lead for good in the fifth on a two-out RBI single by pinch hitter Chris Rock with runners on second and third. Grand Canyon would score an insurance run in the seventh inning on a Reiman single with runners on the corners to account for the final, 4-3.

Both starters went the distance with GCU's Klent Corley getting the win. He went 7 innings striking out 8 and allowing 2 runs on only 3 hits. RHP Don Bracken suffered the loss going 7 innings allowing 4 runs on 9 hits while striking out 7.
