Complete Box Score

CARSON, Calif.-Cal State San Bernardino's Bill Bitonti led a 14-hit attack with two home runs while starting pitcher Anthony Evans tossed a three-hitter as the Coyotes defeated Cal State Dominguez Hills 8-1 in a California Collegiate Athletic Association game today at Toro Field.

San Bernardino (11-10, 6-6 CCAA) got on the board in the second with a single run on a sacrifice fly by RF Mark Ayala. The Coyotes broke the game open in the fourth inning pushing across four runs to take a 5-0 lead. In that inning, the Coyotes got an RBI single by CF Adam Rabusin then back-to-back home runs by C Brian Schweiger and Bitonti to forge a 5-0 lead.

CSUSB plated two more runs in the sixth on a leadoff triple by Rabusin followed by a single through the left side by 3B Rene Leon.

A run-scoring double by DH Marcus Wyatt would make it 7-0 Coyotes.

In the eighth, San Bernardino pushed across a single run on Bitonti's solo home run, his second of the day to make it 8-0. The Toros would spoil the shutout in the bottom of the inning when with runners on second and third, CSUSB's 2B Demler Zamora committed a throwing error allowing the unearned run to score from third making it 8-1.

Bitonti led the Coyotes at the plate going 3-5 with 2 RBI while five others got two hits a piece. Evans (2-0) went the distance on the mound for the win. He took a one-hitter into the ninth, but had to settle for a 3-hit game. Evans struck out six on the day.

For the Toros, starting RHP Chris Ingstad (3-2) had a rocky outing going only 4 innings allowing 5 runs on 8 hits. LHP Brad Allen tossed 1-2/3 in relief allowing 2 runs on 3 hits. RHP's Fernando Varela, Harry Trejo and LHP Raul Claros combined to pitch the final 3-1/3 innings of the game allowing only 3 hits.

Tomorrow will be a bitter sweet day for the Toros as they play their final ever game at Toro Field. The historic ballpark is making way for the new National Training Center which began construction last week. March 22 will mark the first game for the Toros at Los Angeles Southwest College against San Francisco State.
