(Rohnert Park) -- Renee Snyder tripled home
Megan Barranco with one out in the ninth inning for the only run
of the game to lift Cal State Dominguez Hills (17-10, 11-7) to a
1-0 win over Sonoma State (9-17, 6-10) and complete a sweep of
their CCAA doubleheader.
The Toros needed to go into extra innings in
the opener too, knocking off the Cossacks by a 5-4 score.
In the opener, Dominguez Hills took a 3-0 lead
in the second off Cossack starter Sharleen Koenig as they put
together five hits along with a SSU error.
The Toros increased their lead to 4-0 with a
single run in the fifth, but the Cossacks rallied back for three
of their own in the bottom of the inning with Dani McDavid's RBI
double being the key blow. SSU stayed alive with a run in the
bottom of the seventh, but the Toros won it with a run in the
eighth.
In the nightcap, the Cossacks Ashley Cruz and
the Toros Patrina Smith were locked in a scoreless pitcher's duel
through the first eight innings.
The Toros finally broke through when Janie
Olivas was hit by a pitch to open the inning. Barranco came in as
a pinch runner, and one out later scored the go-ahead run on
Snyder's triple. The Cossacks had a chance to tie it in the bottom
of the inning, but Liz Clark was thrown out at the plate trying to
score on a grounder to shortstop.
The Cossacks will be in action again tomorrow
with a 12 noon doubleheader against Cal State Bakersfield.
