Toros Put on Power Display in 28-6 Rout Against San Francisco State
CSUDH hits school record seven home runs in 29-hit attack against Gators

LOS ANGELES, Calif.-Cal State Dominguez Hills christened its new temporary ballpark with a 28-6 rout of San Francisco State today in California Collegiate Athletic Association action at Dennis Gilbert Field on the campus of LA Southwest College.

CSUDH (17-12-1, 8-7 CCAA) broke a 16-year old school record for home runs in a game with seven, two each by 3B Damien Lopez and RF Joe Gevas. San Francisco State scored first with two runs in the first before the Toros took control with five runs in the bottom of the inning which featured three home runs by 2B David Keesee followed by Lopez' and Gevas' first bombs of the day.

The Toros took a 13-2 lead with an 8-run third inning off seven hits. CF Mike Milstead hit his first home run of the year, a 3-run shot, followed by Gevas' second homer of the game. Lopez then hit his second round-tripper, a 2-run blast to left-center field, to cap the scoring in the inning.

CSUDH took a commanding 21-2 lead with another 8-run inning in the fourth on seven hits and three San Francisco errors. The inning was highlighted by SS Eric Pringle's 2-run triple and RBI single's by Keesee and Lopez.

SFSU (13-16, 6-11 CCAA) plated a single run in the fifth inning on back-to-back doubles by CF Jonathan Caniezo and 3B Michael Mukuno. But Cal State Dominguez Hills answered with four runs in the bottom of the stanza on six hits and a Gator error. DH Frank Perez started the scoring with an RBI single followed by a 2-run single by 1B Danny Jacobs. LF Jason Pruitt then singled to Gator 2B Ryan Cope who threw wide at first allowing Jacobs to score from second making it 25-3.

The Gators scored another solo run in the sixth on a RBI single by LF Tanner Herrick but the Toros answered again, this time with two runs in the bottom of the inning on a bases loaded walk by Jacobs and a Michael Amezcua single through the left side.

San Francisco got two more runs in the seventh on a RBI single from C Bobby Matthews and a fielding error on the Toros with runners on first and third. Cal State Dominguez Hills pushed across its final run of the game in the bottom of the inning on a run-scoring single from reserve OF Michael Gray to complete the scoring in the game.

For CSUDH, Joe Gevas and Damien Lopez each had four hits including two home runs apiece. Lopez and Danny Jacobs led the squad with 4 RBI on the day. C Edgar Esqueda and Jason Pruitt also had four hits each. David Keesee, Mike Milstead and Pruitt also had homer's in the game. Starting RHP Chris Ingstad (5-2) went the first 7 innings allowing 6 runs on 13 hits while striking out 6 batters. LHP Brad Allen came on to toss the final 2 innings of no-hit ball.

San Francisco State was led by leadoff batter Bobby Matthews going 3-4 at the plate, including two doubles, with an RBI. Starting RHP Travis Pedretti (2-3) suffered the defeat lasting only 3 innings allowing 16 runs on 17 hits. LHP Ashley Dunlap pitched 2-2/3 innings allowing 11 runs, 6 earned, on 10 hits. RHP Ryan Souder pitched the final 2-1/3 allowing one unearned run on 2 hits.

In all, the Toros broke eight records in the game and tied another including: home runs (7), runs scored (28), hits (29), total bases (56), at-bats (56), runs batted-in (21) and margin of victory (22). Joe Gevas broke the mark for total bases with 14 in the game. Gevas and Lopez tied the record for runs scored with four each today.

The Gators and Toros will continue this four-game series tomorrow with a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
