After sweeping Cal State Stanislaus in a CCAA
doubleheader on Friday, the Toros continued that momentum going
into the Sunwest Invitational hosted by Chapman University on
Saturday.
The Toros showed why they are contending for
the top spot in one of the most competitive conferences in the
nation.
In game one, the Toros met Linfield College of
Oregon. The Toros offense was on fire, as they belted out 13 hits
for 14 runs. The game was called after five innings. With senior
hurler Lisa Monreal behind the plate, the Toros were able to
shutout Linfield for the 14-0 win.
In the game immediately following, CSUDH met
the Jumbos of Tufts University for the first time in Toros
softball history. CSUDH posted a 7-2 win over Tufts, with freshman
hurler Val Long recording her fourth win of the season.
On the day, RoAna Lutz was hot. The senior 3B
led the Toros with a .667 batting average. She had four hits in
six at bats with three homeruns and five RBI. Senior CF Sasha
Shell also had a big day for the Toros. Shell batted .625 with
five hits in eight at bats. Shell recorded a double and a triple
on the day.
The Toros are now 22-11 overall.
