Tony Marquez has been named the Rawlings
California Collegiate Athletic Association Baseball Player of the
Week for the week of April 1-7.
Marquez, a junior from Roseville, carried the
Toros to a 4-2 record against CCAA foes Cal State L.A. and Cal
State Stanislaus last week. He hit .533 (8 for 15) with a double,
3 home runs, 5 runs scored, 7 runs batted in and a stolen base. He
began the week with a game-winning RBI double in the fourth inning
of a 1-0 win at Cal State L.A. Marquez opened the Stanislaus
series with 3 hits, including a homer, 2 runs and 2 RBI in an 8-3
victory. He followed with 2 RBI and a stolen base in game two,
then ripped another 3 hits, including a 2-run homer to lead CSUDH
to a 6-4 win in game three.
Marquez ended the series with a walkoff
game-winning home run in the bottom of the seventh to give the
Toros a 6-5 come-from-behind win.
For the week, Marquez compiled a 1.200 slugging
percentage and struck out only once. |
