LOS ANGELES, Calif.-Matt Kamingawachi led UC
Davis with 4 hits and 3 runs batted-in as the Aggies defeated Cal
State Dominguez Hills 12-5 today at Dennis Gilbert Field on the
campus of LA Southwest College. The win salvages a four-game CCAA
series split for Davis.
UC Davis (21-21, 16-12 CCAA) got on the board
early with 2 runs in the first on a 2-run double by Kamingawachi.
The Aggies added 2 more in the third on an RBI groundout by 1B
Dennis Flippen with runners on the corners. UCD then got an
unearned run on a fielding error by CSUDH second baseman Nate
Hadaway to make it 4-0.
The Toros (29-20-1, 17-15 CCAA) plated a run in
the bottom of the stanza to make it 4-1 on an RBI single by LF Joe
Gevas, scoring SS Eric Pringle who had reached earlier on a 2-out
single.
The Aggies made it 5-1 in the fifth on a
run-scoring single by DH Matt Blankenheim with runners on first
and second. Davis then took a commanding 11-1 lead with a 6-run
sixth inning. CF Robby Tulk's sacrifice fly scored the first run
in the inning. The Ags chased Toros starter Don Bracken (3-4) with
a single followed by a wild pitch which brought on reliever Raul
Claros with runners on first and third. Kamingawachi singled to
second base for an RBI to make it 7-1. Claros then hit Flippen to
load the bases. Former Toros player Mark Wells then hit a 2-run
double giving UCD a 9-1 lead. Blankenheim then chased Claros, who
failed to get an out in the inning, with an RBI single to left
field. Reliever Harry Trejo came on to strike out LF Shaun
McCullough looking, however, RF Ian Fishburn singled to make it
11-1.
CSUDH pushed across 3 runs in the seventh on 1B
Danny Jacobs 2-run home run to center field, his fourth of the
season. Tony Marquez followed with a single and scored later on
Eric Pringle's RBI double.
The Toros added another run in the eighth on OF
Mike Roux's first homer of the year, a solo shot to left center
field. But that was all the runs they would get the rest of the
way. UC Davis plated another insurance run in the top of the ninth
to account for the final margin of victory.
Kamingawachi led Davis going 4-5 at the plate
with 3 RBI and 2 runs scored. Mark Wells came back to Southern
California and haunted his former team. He finished the day going
3-6 with 2 RBI. Ian Fishburn also had 3 hits on the day. Starting
RHP Trevor Thornton (3-2) earned the win. He went the first 8
innings allowing 5 runs, 3 earned, on 9 hits while striking out 5.
For the Toros, Eric Pringle led the way in the
losing cause with 3 hits. Joe Gevas finished going 2-5 at the
plate with an RBI. RHP Don Bracken took the loss going the first
5-1/3 innings giving up 8 runs, 7 earned, on 9 hits. Reliever's
Harry Trejo and Steve Ressa combined for the final 3-2/3 innings
allowing only 1 run.
CSUDH will host a non-conference game this
Wednesday against Cal Lutheran University before they travel up
North for an important 4-game series against Sonoma State. First
pitch on Wednesday is scheduled for 3 PM. |
