Complete Box Score

LOS ANGELES, Calif.-Matt Kamingawachi led UC Davis with 4 hits and 3 runs batted-in as the Aggies defeated Cal State Dominguez Hills 12-5 today at Dennis Gilbert Field on the campus of LA Southwest College. The win salvages a four-game CCAA series split for Davis.

UC Davis (21-21, 16-12 CCAA) got on the board early with 2 runs in the first on a 2-run double by Kamingawachi. The Aggies added 2 more in the third on an RBI groundout by 1B Dennis Flippen with runners on the corners. UCD then got an unearned run on a fielding error by CSUDH second baseman Nate Hadaway to make it 4-0.

The Toros (29-20-1, 17-15 CCAA) plated a run in the bottom of the stanza to make it 4-1 on an RBI single by LF Joe Gevas, scoring SS Eric Pringle who had reached earlier on a 2-out single.

The Aggies made it 5-1 in the fifth on a run-scoring single by DH Matt Blankenheim with runners on first and second. Davis then took a commanding 11-1 lead with a 6-run sixth inning. CF Robby Tulk's sacrifice fly scored the first run in the inning. The Ags chased Toros starter Don Bracken (3-4) with a single followed by a wild pitch which brought on reliever Raul Claros with runners on first and third. Kamingawachi singled to second base for an RBI to make it 7-1. Claros then hit Flippen to load the bases. Former Toros player Mark Wells then hit a 2-run double giving UCD a 9-1 lead. Blankenheim then chased Claros, who failed to get an out in the inning, with an RBI single to left field. Reliever Harry Trejo came on to strike out LF Shaun McCullough looking, however, RF Ian Fishburn singled to make it 11-1.

CSUDH pushed across 3 runs in the seventh on 1B Danny Jacobs 2-run home run to center field, his fourth of the season. Tony Marquez followed with a single and scored later on Eric Pringle's RBI double.

The Toros added another run in the eighth on OF Mike Roux's first homer of the year, a solo shot to left center field. But that was all the runs they would get the rest of the way. UC Davis plated another insurance run in the top of the ninth to account for the final margin of victory.

Kamingawachi led Davis going 4-5 at the plate with 3 RBI and 2 runs scored. Mark Wells came back to Southern California and haunted his former team. He finished the day going 3-6 with 2 RBI. Ian Fishburn also had 3 hits on the day. Starting RHP Trevor Thornton (3-2) earned the win. He went the first 8 innings allowing 5 runs, 3 earned, on 9 hits while striking out 5.

For the Toros, Eric Pringle led the way in the losing cause with 3 hits. Joe Gevas finished going 2-5 at the plate with an RBI. RHP Don Bracken took the loss going the first 5-1/3 innings giving up 8 runs, 7 earned, on 9 hits. Reliever's Harry Trejo and Steve Ressa combined for the final 3-2/3 innings allowing only 1 run.

CSUDH will host a non-conference game this Wednesday against Cal Lutheran University before they travel up North for an important 4-game series against Sonoma State. First pitch on Wednesday is scheduled for 3 PM.
