The Chico State baseball team (44-7, 29-7 CCAA)
earned an 8-1 victory over visiting Cal State Dominguez Hills
Sunday afternoon at Nettleton Stadium. Dominguez Hills fell to
30-28-1 overall and 17-23 in the CCAA.
Robby Poole led off the bottom of the first
with a home run and John Moylan drove in two runs on two hits to
lead the Wildcats to victory, their fourth in four games against
Dominguez Hills this weekend.
Ivan Hernandez (8-2) allowed one run over six
innings to collect the win and Clark Johnson surrendered just one
hit over the last three innings to pick up his second save of the
year.
After Poole's homer gave Chico State the early
advantage, Dominguez Hills' Damien Lopez smashed his own solo
homer over the wall in right-center field, knotting the score 1-1.
However, Chico State retook the lead in the third when Jeff Walker
reached on a fielder's choice, stole second base, and came around
to score on Moylan's base hit.
The Wildcats then took control with three more
runs in the sixth. Jimmy Lintt and Rich Janeway singled to open
the inning and Chris Henry, running for Lintt, and Janeway moved
up on Miguel Mendoza's sacrifice bunt. Henry scored on Kurt
Probasco's single and Janeway crossed the plate on Johnny Molina's
bunt. Walker drove in the final run of the inning, giving the
Wildcats a commanding 5-1 lead.
Chico State tacked on a run in the seventh on
Ryan Wulfert's RBI single and two more in the eighth on Moylan's
RBI-double and Henry's RBI-single.
