May 2, 2002

IRVINE, Calif.--Edgar Esqueda led a 15-hit attack including his 21st double of the season, a new CSUDH record, and senior LHP Steve Ressa pitched 7 scoreless innings as the Toros routed Concordia University 15-1 today in Irvine.

Esqueda, who went 3-6 with 3 RBI, smacked the record-setting twin-bagger in the fifth inning breaking the mark of 20 set by Darrell Conner (1990) and Eric Martin (1994).

CSUDH jumped out early 1-0 in the first on a wild pitch. The Toros added 3 more runs in the second on an RBI double by CF Mike Milstead and a 2-run single by SS Eric Pringle making it 4-0.

It stayed that way until the fifth inning when the Toros pushed across 5 runs on 5 hits highlighted by Esqueda's record-breaking RBI double and 3B Damien Lopez' 10th homerun of the season, a 3-run blast over the trees in left field.

The Toros (32-28-1) tacked on 6 more runs in the eighth inning on 4 hits while sending 11 batters to the plate. The outburst was highlighted by Esqueda's 2-run single followed by RBI singles from DH Frank Perez and 2B David Keesee making it 15-0.

Concordia got on the scoreboard with a run in the bottom of the ninth to account for the final 15-1 score.

Esqueda led CSUDH going 3-6 at the plate with 3 RBI. Eric Pringle also had 3 hits finishing 3-6 with 2 runs batted in. 1B Danny Jacobs finished his playing career in a Toros uniform on a positive note with 2 hits. Frank Perez and Mike Milstead also had 2 hits each.

Steve Ressa (3-2) earned the win going the first 7 shutout innings allowing only 2 hits. Senior RHP Harry Trejo tossed the final 2 innings allowing the lone Eagle run.

Cal State Dominguez Hills finishes the 2002 campaign on a two-game win streak. The Toros, who defeated Biola last Tuesday 22-7, have outscored the opposition 37-8 this week alone.
