LOS ANGELES, Calif.-Former Cal State Dominguez
Hills third baseman Steve Hindman has signed a professional
contract with the Chico Heat of the Western Baseball League and
has already reported to camp up north.
Hindman, a native of La Mirada, CA, was a
two-year starter for the Toros from 2000-2001 after transferring
to the Carson campus from Cypress JC. As a senior in 2001, Hindman
led the Toros with a .335 average and 11 home runs. He also
knocked in a team-high 57 runs earning him Second Team
All-California Collegiate Athletic Association honors.
Hindman, who reported to camp on May 6, finds
it hard to contain his excitement about the opportunity.
"This is a dream come true for
me," said Hindman. "This is what I have been dreaming
about and working towards my entire life since I was 6 years old."
For now, Hindman enters camp as a utility
player with the ability to play every infield position. He even
took a catcher's mit to camp just in case. However, he would like
to eventually work his way into his natural position as an
everyday third baseman.
"My goal is to move into a
starting role," said Hindman. "It is a good situation
for me and I am looking to take full advantage of it."
