The new Cal State Dominguez Hills baseball and
softball field's are nearly complete for the upcoming 2003 season.
This year will mark the inaugural season on both fields after Toro
Field and Toro Diamond were demolished last year to make room for
The Home Depot National Training Center.
The new baseball field features 70-foot
major-league sunken dugouts, nearby batting cages and bullpens.
The infield grass is pristine "bulls-eye" sod and
stabilized gold dirt that is utilized in 90% of the big-league
parks in the U.S.
The outfield dimensions are a bit more "cozy"
than the spacious former Toro Field. The new yard is 390' to
straight-away CF; 340 LF and 325 in RF. One of the nicest new
features is the 40' x 40' hitters-eye in center field. The Toros
scoreboard has been completely refurbished with new paint and new
light bulbs.
The softball field uses the same sod, dirt and
grass as the baseball field. The new softball diamond features 50'
sunken dugouts and the scoreboard has also been refurbished with
new paint and light bulbs. The new outfield dimensions are 200
feet all the way around.
Both venues will be completed shortly after
January 1, 2003. The baseball team will play its first game at the
new Toro Field when they host the Alumni on Sunday, February 2 at
noon. The first intercollegiate contest will be on Wednesday,
February 5 when Concordia University (CA) visits at 2:00 p.m. The
softball team will begin its inaugural season at Toro Diamond
beginning on Saturday, February 8 hosting The Master's College at
noon.
