CSUDH Selected to Host 2003 CCAA Men's and Women's Soccer Championships

CCAA 2003 Soccer Tourney

CARSON, Calif.--Cal State Dominguez Hills has been selected to host the 2003 California Collegiate Athletic Association Men's and Women's Soccer Championship Tournaments held on November 7-9 at Toro Field, it was announced today by the CCAA commissioner's office.

The CSUDH men's team is currently 14-1-2, ranked No. 4 in the nation and No. 1 in the NCAA II Far West Region. The Toros will be seeking their fifth-consecutive CCAA title. Only former CCAA school Cal State Northridge won more consecutive titles, winning six from 1984-89.

The Cal State Dominguez Hills women's team will be seeking its first CCAA championship since the inaugural tournament held in 1998. The Toros, sporting a 12-3-1 overall record, are currently ranked No. 17 in the national poll and No. 2 in the NCAA Far West Region. Last Sunday in its 3-2 overtime win over UC Davis, CSUDH clinched at least a share of its third-straight CCAA Central Division title.

Both the men's and women's tournaments will consist of division winners from the North, Central and South, along with the highest remaining squad based on win-loss-tie point total. The division winner with the highest point total will be the No. 1 seed and will take on the wildcard entrant in both tournaments. The division winner with the second-highest point total is the No. 2 seed and the other division winner will be the No. 3 seed.

Both the men's and women's semifinals will be played on Friday, November 7. The championship games will be held on Sunday, November 9. The women's championship will begin at 11:30 a.m. and the men's championship will follow at 2:00 p.m.
