ROHNERT PARK, Calif.--Sonoma State pulled off a
10-9 win in 10 innings followed by an 8-4 victory in the nightcap
to sweep Cal State Dominguez Hills in California Collegiate
Athletic Association action Saturday afternoon at Seawolf Field.
In the early game, SS C.J. Larsen knocked in
the game-winning run on a single with the bases loaded to give SSU
a 10-9 win. CSUDH found themselves in a hold early after starter
Gustavo Hernandez and reliever Raul Claros were hit hard early
allowing nine runs over the first five innings.
But the Toros pushed across six runs in the
sixth to make it close, 9-8. In that inning, OF Ricky Eda hit a
solo homerun and the Toros scored five unearned runs on three
Sonoma State errors.
SS Fernando Hernandez, who went 3-for-5 in the
game, knotted the score with his first homer of the year in the
top of the seventh. But Larsen's bases-loaded single in the bottom
of the tenth gave the Seawolves the win.
Chris Abbott (1-2) suffered the loss in relief
tossing 1.1 innings and allowing one runs on two hits and two
walks.
In the nightcap, Sonoma scored five runs in the
first three innings to take a 5-1 advantage. CSUDH 1B Daniel
Pilimai's second homerun of the year, a solo shot, trimmed the
score to 5-2 in the fourth. But the Seawolves scored three more
times in the fourth and the fifth to take a 8-2 lead.
Ian Corso's pinch-hit two-run double in the top
of the seventh for the Toros would account for the final margin of
8-4.
CSUDH starter Roberto Esparza (0-1) took the
loss giving up six runs, five earned in the first 3.2 innings.
Cal State Dominguez Hills will try to avoid the
four-game sweep when it closes out the series tomorrow with a
single game beginning at noon.
