CHICO - The Chico State baseball team completed
the four-game series sweep of Cal State Dominguez Hills with a
10-2 victory today at Nettleton Stadium.
With the sweep, Chico improves to 26-12-1
overall, 17-9-1 in conference play. Dominguez Hills drops to 10-37
overall, 5-23 in conference.
After scoring 32 runs in yesterday's
doubleheader, the Wildcats wasted no time putting a run up on the
board in the bottom of the first inning. Dominguez tied the score
in the second, and were still in the game, trailing 5-2 heading
into the bottom of the sixth, but the Wildcats posted four runs in
their half of the sixth to put the game out of reach. Ryan Mathes
had a run-scoring double, Jonathan Shepard drove him home with a
single up the middle and cleared the bases with a two-run single
to left.
Jeff Walker was 3-for-5 with a double and two
RBI. Joseph Ramos and Ryan Wulfert each had two hits and two RBI
and James McCabe had two hits in the game.
Chico State got a solid performance from
starter Gilbert Hernandez (3-0), who gave up two runs on four hits
with two strikeouts and thee walks in seven innings of work.
Salvador Camarena and Nick Burger each threw a scoreless inning in
relief.
Raul Claros (0-4) took the loss, allowing nine
runs on nine hits in 5.2 innings of work. He struck out two and
walked two.
Cal State Dominguez Hills entertains Cal
Baptist Wednesday in the next baseball game.
