CARSON, Calif.--The Cal State Dominguez Hills
women's soccer team scored two second period goals to beat
visiting Sonoma State University 2-0 Sunday afternoon in
California Collegiate Athletic Association at Toro Field.
CSUDH is riding a seven match unbeaten streak
and have now won two games in a row. The Toros are 11-4-1 overall
and 7-2-1 in CCAA conference play. Sonoma State drops to 8-5-1 and
5-4-1 in league action.
After a scoreless first half, freshman Tara
Senff (Palos Verdes, CA/So. Torrance HS) put Cal State Dominguez
Hills up 1-0 in the 46th minute taking a pass from Monique Castro
(San Diego, CA/Mira Mesa HS) inside the box and beat SSU goalie
Adena Miller from point-blank to the near post.
In the 57th minute, Rachele McDonald (Ventura,
CA/Buena HS) gave the Toros some cushion with her team-leading
11th goal of the year. McDonald cleaned up a shot by Katie Roche
(Cerritos, CA/Costa Mesa HS), taking the rebound off the goalie at
the mouth of the goal and knocked the ball to the back of the net
for the 2-0 final.
The Toros defense staved off a few rallies by
the Seawolves, and goalie Mallory Dominguez (San Pedro, CA/Mary
Star of the Sea HS) played solid in the net registering two saves
in the match to record the shutout.
In the match, CSUDH played most of the time in
the Sonoma defensive third outshooting them 23-9.
Cal State Dominguez Hills returns to CCAA
action on Wednesday traveling to CS San Bernardino. First kick is
scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
