San Francisco, Calif.--- The San Francisco
State University mens basketball team snapped their
three-game losing streak this evening as they defeated the
visiting Toros of Cal State Dominguez Hills (5-14, 4-8 CCAA) 85-79
at SFSUs Main Gymnasium. The Gators improved to 9-10 overall
and 8-8 in the CCAA.
The Gators opened up the game on a 28-12 run in
the first eleven minutes when Ryan Cleaves made a tip-in to give
SF State its largest lead of the first half. Cal State Dominguez
Hills then went on a 11-0 run itself in the next four minutes to
cut the Gator lead to 28-23 when Quenton Harvey hit a
three-pointer for the Toros.
SF State then built its lead back to double
digits, when the Gators went on a 10-4 run in the next three
minutes to take a 38-27 lead at the 2:24 mark of the first half.
The Gators went into the locker room at half leading 41-31.
SFSU opened up the second half building its
lead to 13 (57-44) at the 13:47 mark when Joe Roberson scored two
of his game-high 26 points. The Gators then never looked back and
won the game 85-79.
Roberson also added 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 4
steals for the Gators while Cleaves chipped in a season high 22
points. Cleaves also had 8 rebounds, 7 assists, and three steals
and David Hungerford chipped in 13.
Phillip Givens scored 24 points for the Toros
while Quenton Harvey chipped in 16 and Saul Lankster scored 13.
The Toros will be back at the Carson campus
next weekend for a homestand featuring Cal State L.A. Friday (Feb.
11) and Cal State Bakersfield, Saturday.
