TURLOCK, Calif.—After dropping an 18-4 decision to visiting Cal State Dominguez Hills in the first game of a CCAA doubleheader, the Cal State Stanislaus baseball team recovered with a 3-2 win over the Toros in the second game Saturday at Warrior Field.

The Toros (17-20, 7-16 CCAA) jumped on the Warriors (17-21, 8-15 CCAA) early in game one, roughing up the Warriors for seven runs in the second. CSUDH added two runs in the third and fourth innings to take an 11-0 lead before the Warriors could score their first run.

The Warriors used six pitchers, including normal fielders Jason Durbin, Mike Gonzalez and Chad Gordon to save the bullpen for Stanislaus.

Marquis Fleming suffered the loss allowing seven runs on eight hits in just 1 1/3 innings of work to drop to 2-3 overall. Jason Garcia earned the win allowing two runs on six hits to improve to 4-2 overall.

The Toros outhit the Warriors 20-10 with all nine starters recording a hit.

Matthew Hopps led the way for the Toros going 4-for-5 with three runs and four RBI. Only one Warrior, Jason Louis, had a multiple-hit day going 2-for-4 with an RBI.

In the nightcap, Dominguez Hills took a quick 1-0 lead in the first and held it until the Warriors put three on the board late in the game.

Pete Hernandez and Chris LeBouef each had RBI-singles in the fifth to take the lead, 2-1, and in the sixth Chad Rolen added the final run on an RBI-single of his own.

The Toros did make it interesting in the seventh, scoring one run to cut the lead to 3-2 before the Warriors would retire the side and earn the much-needed win.

Josh Berrington went the distance for CSUS to improve to 3-4 on the year and David Leyva took the loss, his first decision of the year.

Due to the rainout of Friday’s game, the four-game series concludes with a doubleheader beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Warrior Field.
