WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- Cal State Dominguez
Hills infielder Jason Klug and Jason Garcia have
been named the Wilson California Collegiate Athletic Association
Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for the
week of February 13-19.
Klug, a 61 junior from Moreno
Valley, led the Toros to a 5-1 week that included nonconference
wins over league rivals Cal Poly Pomona (Feb. 13) and UC San Diego
(Feb. 15) and a 3-to-1 series win at Grand Canyon (Feb. 17-19).
He hit .444 (12 for 27) with 2 doubles, 3 home
runs, 5 runs scored and 10 runs batted in over the six games. Klug
added a stolen base, handled all 39 defensive chances and posted
an .852 slugging percentage as well.
Klug went 3 for 5 with a home run and 5 RBI in
an 11-8 win over Pomona. Two days later, he had 3 hits, including
a double, and drove in 2 to lead CSUDH in an 8-5 loss to Canyon.
In a doubleheader sweep of Canyon the following day, Klug went 5
for 7 with a double, 2 home runs, 4 runs scored and 3 RBI.
Garcia, a senior righthander from South Gate,
earned a 7-inning complete-game 1-hit shutout in leading the Toros
to a 5-0 win at Grand Canyon on Feb. 18.
He faced two batters over the minimum, allowing
a single and hitting a batter, walked none and struck out 5.
Garcia retired the first seven and final 11 Antelopes he faced en
route to his first victory of the season.
