Bakersfield, CA -- Junior Matt Giamberdino
(Torrance, CA/Torrance HS) finished the CSUB Spring Invitational,
presented by Pinnacle Financial and Communication Enterprises,
Tuesday afternoon where he began, leading the Toro charge.
The Torrance native shot 169 (85, 84) over the
two days to finish tied for 77th place as the final day of the
tournament came to a close at Seven Oaks Country Club in
Bakersfield, sans the gusty weather conditions from Monday which
caused the afternoon round to be scrubbed.
As a team, the Toros finished 15th amongst 15
schools competing with an aggregate score of 697, while the host
'Runners came back from one stroke down to finish 13 strokes ahead
of runner-up Cal State San Bernardino. Western Washington, the
6th-ranked team in DII, finished third at 617, while Sonoma State
(618) and UCLA (621) rounded out the top five.
Individually, Nick Bell of Cal State Monterey
Bay carded an even par 72 Tuesday to earn medalist honors at threeover
147, finishing two strokes better than CSUBs Chris Killmer,
who finished at 149.
Other CSUDH results are: Niraj Dhruv (81st -
92, 83, 175), Shaun VIckers (82nd, 95, 81, 176), Miguel Saucedo
(83rd, 95, 87, 182).
CSUDH is back in action next week as it travels
to San Juan Capistrano to compete in the Southern California
Intercollegiate on March 6-7, hosted by UC San Diego.
