Carson, CA Cal State Dominguez Hills
Houston Hernandez (La Mirada, CA/St. Paul HS) has been
named the Wilson California Collegiate Athletic Association
Baseball Player of the Week for the week of April 3-9.
Hernandez, a junior from La Mirada, led the
Toros to a 4-0 week, including a victory over NAIA 2nd-ranked Cal
Baptist (Apr. 6), and a three-game sweep of Grand Canyon (Apr.
7-8). On the week he hit .500 (7 for 14) with a double, walk, 5
runs scored and 3 runs batted in over the four contests.
Hernandez opened the week with 2 runs and an
RBI in an 8-1 win over Cal Baptist. The following day, he went 3
for 5 with a double and RBI to power the Toros past Grand Canyon,
8-2. He concluded the week with 3 hits, a walk, run and RBI in a
doubleheader sweep of GCU.
Defensively, Hernandez made 6 putouts and
assisted on 16 others without committing an error.
The Toros return to action next Thursday, April
13, when they travel to Cal State San Bernardino for game one of a
four-game series, before returning home on Saturday, April 15 for
a double-header to conclude the series with the Coyotes, with
first pitch scheduled for 12:00 p.m. on Toro Field.
