Carson, CA Senior Chris Borchers
(Torrance, CA/LA Harbor College) has been named the Wilson
California Collegiate Athletic Association Baseball Pitcher of the
Week for the week of April 17-23, it was announced this afternoon
by the CCAA Office.
Borchers, a 6-3 right-hander from Torrance, put
forth a pair of outstanding efforts that enabled the Toros to win
3 of 5 CCAA Conference games and stay in the hunt for a league
tournament berth.
Borchers opened the week with a hard-luck
no-decision, as he limited Cal State San Bernardino to 2 runs on 4
hits while striking out seven against one walk in seven innings of
work.
Five days later, Borchers fired a 3-hit,
7-inning complete game gem at UC San Diego that gave the Toros a
3-to-1 series victory against the Tritons. The right-hander
limited the Tritons offense to just 1 run on 3 hits and struck out
8 as CSUDH prevailed, 6-1.
For the week, Borchers went 1-0 with a
no-decision. He allowed 3 runs on 7 hits, 4 walks and 1 hit
batsman while striking out 15 batters over 14 innings pitched.
Opponents hit just .159 against Borchers, who posted a 1.93 earned
run average and a 3.75 strikeouts-to-walks ratio over the two
contests.
The Toros travel to Cal State Monterey Bay this
Friday for game one of a four-game set, before returning home on
Saturday, May 6, to conclude their 2006 regular season and honor
the eight seniors on the 2006 CSUDH team.
