Carson, CA The good news just keeps on
rolling in for Toros Baseball. After moving up two spots in the
West Region poll and receiving its third CCAA Pitcher of the Week
Award earlier today, CSUDH has cracked the national ranking for
the first time this season as it checks in at No. 23, it was
announced this evening by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper.
Junior Jason Klug (Moreno Valley, CA/San
Bernardino Valley College) leads the CCAA in batting average
at .400, and is second in the conference in hits (70) and total
bases (111).
On the mound, sophomore Matt Hopps
(Torrance, CA/South Torrance HS) and senior Chris Borchers
(Torrance, CA/LA Harbor College) both are in the CCAA's top
ten in ERA with respective marks of 3.02 (4th) and 3.52 (9th),
while senior southpaw Ryan Owen (Torrance, CA/West Torrance
HS) is 3rd in the CCAA with 70 strikeouts in 68.0 inning of
work.
CSUDH currently sits in second place behind
cross-town rival Cal State L.A. in the CCAA standings, who joins
the Toros in the national poll, coming in at 15th. Both teams will
conclud their 2006 conference season this weekend, which should
determine which team garners the No. 1 seed heading into the CCAA
tournament on May 11-13.
CSUDH and CSULA are joined by fellow CCAA
school Chico State at 24th nationally.
The Toros travel to Cal Poly Pomona this
Thursday and Friday for games one and two of a four-game set,
before returning home on Saturday, May 6 for games three and four
to conclude their 2006 regular season and honor the eight seniors
on the 2006 CSUDH team.
