Carson, CA -- On the heels of being swept by
No. 19 San Francisco State and winning just three of their last
six games last week, the Cal State Dominguez Hills softball team
has dropped to No. 4 in the NCAAs West Region poll, and to
No. 14 in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) poll,
it was announced by both organizations earlier today.
CSUDH, now at 38-9, 17-7 CCAA, is led by
seniors Cindy Perry-Brown (Victorville, CA/Silverado HS),
the 2005 CCAA MVP, and Kate Groden (San Pedro, CA/San Pedro
HS/SE Missouri Univ.), the CSUDH career leader in RBI and
doubles, who have combined for 110 hits, 76 RBI and a .373 batting
average, while Jackie Miller (Bremerton, WA/Central Kitsap
HS/CS Stanislaus), junior Kristine Minter (Chula Vista,
CA/Hampton University) and sophomore Amy Thomas (Barstow,
CA/Barstow HS) form a lethal 1-2-3 trio, combining for a 1.40
ERA while limiting opposing batters to a miniscule .192 batting
average against.
In the West Region, Humboldt State remains on
top, and is followed by Cal State Bakersfield and San Francisco
State, while Cal State Stanislaus, Hawaii Hilo, Seattle and Hawaii
Pacific round out the top 8. The top eight seeds in each of the
eight regions around the nation qualify for the NCAA postseason,
which begins Thursday, May 11, at a site to be determined.
Nationally, HSU continues its reign atop the
poll, while Emporia State, Florida Southern, SUI-Edwardsville and
Lock Haven round out the top 5. CCAA-leading Cal State Bakersfield
comes in at No. 6, while the Gators dropped one spot to No. 20.
The Toros travel to Sonoma State and Cal State
Stanislaus on Thursday and Friday to close the regular season, and
will find out its seed, opponent and the host institution this
Sunday, May 7.
