Carson, CA -- Cal State Dominguez Hills senior
Cindy Perry-Brown (Victorville, CA/Silverado HS) was
selected a 1st-team All-CCAA honoree for the third-straight year
while fellow senior Jackie Miller (Bremerton, WA/Central
Kitsap HS/Cal State Stanislaus) garnered her first-career
1st-team All-CCAA nod, heading the list of seven Toros who were
named to All-CCAA teams, it was announced this afternoon by the
California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA).
Perry-Brown, both a two-time All-American and
1st-team All-Region selection, leads the CCAA in stolen bases, is
2nd in runs scored and triples, 5th in hits, 6th in batting
average, and 14th nationally in stolen bases per game. She has set
a combined eight CSUDH single-season and career records just this
season, and holds 14 Toro softball marks in her stellar career.
Additionally, she is one walk away from tying
the single-season record for walks in a career and, entering the
NCAA Far West Regional playoffs this Thursday, boasts a higher
career batting average than the all-time Toro record.
Miller, now a two-time All-CCAA honoree after
earning a 2nd-team distinction last season, has been a
double-threat for the Toros in her two years in Cardinal &
Gold. The Bremerton, Washington native is 2nd in the conference in
both strikeouts and opposing batting average, 3rd in wins and 5th
in ERA, while placing 4th in the home runs and 8th in RBI.
Miller has won three CCAA Pitcher of the Week
awards this season, and one CCAA Player of the Week honor as the
Toros prepare for their fourth-consecutive trip to the NCAA
post-season.
Senior Kate Groden (San Pedro, CA/San Pedro
HS/SE Missouri Univ.) was named to the CCAAs 2nd-team
for the second-consecutive year, and is followed by first-time
2nd-team selections Jen Wilson (Orange, CA/Bellflower HS/CS
Fullerton), Lori Moreno (Los Angeles, CA/California HS)
and Amy Thomas (Barstow, CA/Barstow HS), and 3rd-team
All-CCAA honoree Kristine Minter (Chula Vista, CA/Hampton
University).
Groden has enjoyed a fine senior season,
placing 8th in the NCAA in doubles, and leading the CCAA in RBI,
doubles and sacrifice flies, placing 5th in runs scored, 6th in
walks and 9th in home runs, all while establishing the CSUDH
record for RBI and doubles in both a season and career, and
claiming 6 Toro records.
Wilson, on the heels of her first-career CCAA
Player of the Week nod for the week of May 1-8, is 6th in RBI in
the CCAA and 9th in slugging percentage.
Moreno, a four-year senior who is putting up
career numbers in her final season, is 5th in the CCAA in stolen
bases and walks, and 7th in runs scored, while sophomore Thomas
leads the CCAA in opposing batting average, is 2nd in ERA, 9th in
strikeouts, and holds the 20th-lowest ERA in the nation.
Kristine Minter, who threw the Toros only
no-hitter this year against Cal State San Bernardino on April 20,
was chosen to the 3rd-team All-CCAA in her first season after
transferring from Hampton University.
CSUDH tied CCAA Champion Cal State Bakersfield
and NCAA-participant Cal State Stanislaus with seven members
selected, while defending Far West Champions San Francisco State
placed six players on the All-CCAA teams.
The Toros, who sport a 42-9 overall and 21-7
CCAA mark, will face Cal State Stanislaus on Thursday, May 11, to
open their 2006 NCAA post-season schedule, with first pitch
scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. start on the Roadrunner Softball
Complex, hosted by CCAA Champions Cal State Bakersfield. |
