Carson, CA -- Cal State Dominguez Hills
Jackie Miller (Bremerton, WA/Central Kitsap HS/Cal State
Stanislaus) has been named the Wilson California Collegiate
Athletic Association (CCAA) Softball Pitcher of the Week for the
week of May 1-7, while teammate Jen Wilson (Orange,
CA/Bellflower HS/CS Fullerton) was named, aptly, the Wilson
CCAA Player of the Week, it was announced this afternoon by the
CCAA office.
Miller, a senior from Bremerton, Wash., was
nearly perfect last week as she picked up two complete-game
victories and a save on the road to help the Toros close out the
regular season on a four-game winning streak. On Thursday at
Sonoma State, Miller struck out 8 with no walks, retiring
11-consecutive batters at one point as CSUDH defeated the
Seawolves, 6-1.
The next day at Cal State Stanislaus, Miller
pitched a 1-hitter as the Toros took an 8-0, 6-inning contest,
retiring the final 8 batters for the win. In the nightcap, Miller
was called upon in the 7th after the Warriors loaded the bases,
but retired the final two CSUS batters to preserve the 7-5 win.
For the week, Miller was 2-0 with a save,
allowing just 1 earned run and 7 hits in 14 innings while striking
out 17 batters against only 1 walk, limiting opposing batters to a
.146 batting average.
Wilson, a senior from Orange, Calif., batted
.533 (8-for-15) with 9 RBI and 7 runs scored, belting 2 home runs
and a double to lead the Toros offensively on the road last week.
She also walked once and was hit by a pitch to post a .588 on-base
percentage. In addition to her 1.000 slugging percentage, Wilson
was 1-for-1 in stolen bases and was flawless defensively.
Against Sonoma State, Wilson went 6-for-8 with
4 runs scored, 2 home runs and 8 RBI as CSUDH swept SSU, 6-1 and
13-4, enjoying a 3RBI opener and 5RBI nightcap. The next day at
Cal State Stanislaus, Wilson scored twice as the Toros took a 8-0
win in game one, before going 2-for-4 with a double, RBI and run
scored in the 7-5-nightcap victory.
This is Millers third career Pitcher of
the Week award and fourth CCAA Weekly honor this season, while
Wilson earns her first-career CCAA Player of the Week nod.
To date, the Toros, who sport a 42-9 overall
and 21-7 CCAA mark, have earned eight conference honors as they
ready to face Cal State Stanislaus on Thursday, May 11, to open
their 2006 NCAA post-season schedule, with first pitch scheduled
for a 2:00 p.m. start on the Roadrunner Softball Complex, hosted
by CCAA Champions Cal State Bakersfield.
