Carson, CA -- Coming off a big 3-1 win over Cal
State Stanislaus on the first day of the NCAA Far West Region
playoffs Thursday afternoon, seniors Cindy Perry-Brown
(Victorville, CA/Silverado HS), Jackie Miller (Bremerton,
WA/Central Kitsap HS/Cal State Stanislaus) and Lori Moreno
(Los Angeles, CA/California HS) were all named 2nd-team
All-Region honorees. The announcement was made Thursday by the
National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA).
Perry-Brown, a two-time All-American,
three-time 1st-team All-CCAA and now three-time All-Region
selection, ended the regular season leading the CCAA in stolen
bases, and was 2nd in runs scored and triples, 5th in hits, 6th in
batting average, and 14th nationally in stolen bases per game. She
set a combined eight CSUDH single-season and career records just
this season, and holds 14 Toro softball marks in her stellar
career. Additionally, she is one walk away from tying the
single-season record for walks in a career and, after today's win
in the NCAA Far West Regional playoffs, boasts a higher career
batting average than the all-time Toro record.
Miller, a two-time All-CCAA honoree, earns the
first All-Region nod of her career. The Bremerton native has been
a double-threat for the Toros in her two years in Cardinal &
Gold. She finished the 2006 regular season 2nd in the conference
in both strikeouts and opposing batting average, 3rd in wins and
5th in ERA, while placing 4th in the home runs and 8th in RBI at
the plate. Miller has won three CCAA Pitcher of the Week awards
this season and one CCAA Player of the Week honor, moving her
record to 17-3 with today's 3-1 victory over her former team.
Moreno, a fourth-year senior who earned her
first career All-CCAA nod last Tuesday after putting up career
numbers in her final season in Cardinal & Gold, finished 5th
in the CCAA in stolen bases and walks, and 7th in runs scored. The
5'0" dynamo has garnered a .338 batting average with 42 runs
scored, 48 hits, 6 doubles and 21 RBI. A defensive wiz, she has
handled all 59 chances this year, and just today robbed the
Warriors of a home run by leaping over the fence in center field
in a momentum-turning effort.
The Toros, now 43-9 after today's win, will
face the nation's top-ranked team in Humboldt State tomorrow
afternoon at 4:30 p.m. on the Roadrunner Softball Complex, hosted
by CCAA Champions Cal State Bakersfield.
