SAN BERNARDINO -- Unbeaten Cal State
San Bernardino won its 11th straight women's volleyball match
Saturday night sweeping past Cal State Dominguez Hills, 3-0,
before 225 fans in Coussoulis Arena.
The Coyotes won all three games by 30-17, 30-24
and 30-24 to improve to 11-0 overall and 6-0 in the CCAA. The
Toros are now 4-8 overall and 1-5 in the conference.
CSUSB spread the wealth out among 13 players
with junior Sharea Drawn, freshman Ashtin Hall and senior Lisa
Dogonyaro each putting down seven kills. Three freshman setters --
Alyssa Auck, Sara Hoffman and Kass McInteer combined for 42
assists. Hoffman had 18.
The Coyotes defense forced 24 attack errors by
the Toros who hit just .021 for the match and .000 for two of the
three games. Freshman Penina Suddeth had a team-high six kills for
the Toros while libero Maria Miranda sparkled in the back line
with 17 digs.
CSUSB recorded 17 blocks to 10 for the Toros.
After the Coyotes won with ease in game one,
the feisty Toros made their presence felt in game two. Trailing
17-9 after a kill by the Coyotes Portala George, the Toros
outscored the Coyotes 8-1 with five straight points coming off
Miranda's serves to make it 18-17 Coyotes.
CSUSB responded, outscoring the Toros 6-2 to
take a 24-19 lead on a Toro attack error. The Toros got within
three at 25-22 on a block by Courtney Spainhour and Nicole Hoffman
of a Coyote attack but a Sharea Drawn kill and another Toro error
put the game out of reach.
The Coyotes would jump out to a 22-18 lead on a
kill by Hall, and the two teams would trade points until junior
Lindsey Olhausen put down a kill for a 29-24 lead and Suddeth's
attack went out to seal the win for the Coyotes.
The Toros next take the court Wednesday when
the team travels to UCSD for a 7:00 pm match. |
