Carson, CA - The No. 3-ranked and undefeated
Cal State San Bernardino volleyball team flexed its collective
muscle with a .389 to .025 hitting advantage, showing why they are
one of the top teams in the nation as they swept the Toros 30-18,
30-14, 30-11. With the loss CSUDH falls to 7-14, 4-11 CCAA, while
the Coyotes remain unbeaten and improve to 21-0, 15-0 CCAA.
The Coyotes would start game one on top of
their game, taking the lead at 3-2 on the second of 14 kills by
Katie Hatch-Kinser, and never look back. Overall, CSUSB would hit
.316 in the game while holding CSUDH to a .138 hitting percentage.
The Toros would fight early in game two, using
a kill by Timary More (Torrance, CA/El Camino CC) to tie
the game at 2-2, and take the lead on a Coyote attacking error.
However, after a kill by Hatch-Kinser knotted
the game at 3-3, Sharea Drawn dropped back-to-back service aces,
and then another ace a few services later to extend CSUSBs
lead, one they would never relinquish.
The wheels would fall off for the Toros in game
three, as CSUSB used a .444 to -.043 hitting advantage to run away
with the game and match.
The Coyotes were led by Katie Hatch-Kinser with
14 kills and a .706 hitting percentage, while setter Sara Hoffman
dished out 33 set assists, and libero Meghan Hass recorded 12
digs.
For the Toros, More led the offense with four
kills, while Courtney Spainhour (Redondo Beach, CA/El Camino
CC) picked up eight digs in the effort.
The Toros continue CCAA action tomorrow night
as they go for a sweep of Cal Poly Pomona after taking a 5-set
marathon on September 15, with first serve scheduled for 7:00 pm
in the Torodome.
