ARCATA — (Nov. 4) Humboldt State’s volleyball team sent its seniors off in style Saturday night in the East Gym, claiming a 30-17, 30-28, 30-27 win over visiting Cal State Dominguez Hills in both teams’ season finale.

The Lumberjacks close out the 2006 season with a 9-15 overall mark and a 6-14 record in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. The Toros fall to 8-18 overall and 5-15 in conference play.

Following a pre-match ceremony, honoring Lumberjack seniors May Domoto, Courntey Lee and Kristen Kinzer, Humboldt jumped all over the Toros, breaking a 7-7 tie to take an eventual 28-15 lead and a 30-17 win.

The Jacks build a 19-14 lead in the second game, but the Toros battled to tie the score at 24-24 and 27-27. A service error and ball handling error by CS Dominguez Hills gave HSU a pair of points and Lynsey Adams closed out the game with a kill for the 30-28 win.

Humboldt held the lead for the entire third game, claiming its final two points on a service ace by Katie Norkunas and a ball handling error by the Toros gave the Lumberjacks the 30-27 final.

Norkunas finished with a team-high 14 kills while also adding 16 digs. Lee had a match-high 19 digs while Lynsey Adams and Kinzer had seven kills apiece.
