Paso Robles, CA -- The Toros' Zach Jones
(Los Alamitos, CA/University of Hawai'i-Hilo) came back from a
5-over first round to post a 2-under 2nd round to put him at 21st
place overall, finishing with a 3-over 147 after day one of the
CCAA Championships came to an end at Hunter Ranch Golf Club in
Paso Robles. As a team, CSUDH sits in 8th place amongst the 8
teams competing, 31 strokes back of 7th place UC San Diego.
Raphael Malabanon (Stanton, CA/Cypress
College) seemed poised to field the best mark for the Toro
quintet after his first round total of 75, but not even his 76
after round two could keep Jones off the Toro leader board as the
Los Alamitos native forged his way back after an opening effort of
77 with a second round of 70 to finish at 147 at day's end.
Individually, Cal State Stanislaus' Eric
Justesen managed an 8-under 136 over the first two rounds, and is
followed by Cal State Bakersfield's Chris Kwon at 140, and a trio
of Cal State San Bernardino Coyotes who occupy the 3 through 5
slots.
As a team, Chico State's total of 574 is 5
stroke better than CS Stanislaus' 579, while Cal State Monterey
Bay and Cal State San Bernardino find themselves in a two-way tie
for 3rd at 581, just seven strokes back of the Wildcats.
Other CSUDH results:
- Miguel Saucedo (38th, 80-83-163)
- Jeff Ronk (39th, 85-81-166)
- Matt Giamberdino (40th, 90-87-177)
