Toros Track & Field Shines on Day Two of CCAA Championships; Event Finals Loom Tomorrow

San Francisco, CA – The Toros 4 x 400-meter relay team blew past the competition on day two of the CCAA Track & Field Championships with a time of 3:57.36, finishing eight seconds ahead of the runner-up squad to earn the top qualifying time and prime position in tomorrow’s final event, and will be joined by three Toros who qualified for two event finals each as day two of the Championships, hosted by San Francisco State, came to a close this evening.

Grace Fitchett (Los Angeles, CA/Paramount HS) continued her strong season in the sprints and hurdles prelims, turning in the fastest time in the 100-meter dash by breaking the tape in 12.09 seconds and finishing runner up in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.97, qualifying for both events tomorrow.

Deborah Bowser (Long Beach, CA/Cerritos JC) also earned a spot in two different finals with a second place finish in the 200-meter dash preliminary in a time of 24.92 and a 5th place finish in the 100-meter dash heat with a time of 12.36.

The third Toro competing in two event finals tomorrow is sprinter Danielle Lewis (Los Angeles, CA/LA Southwest College), who qualified in the 100-meter dash and the 200-meter dash, with times of 12.37 and 25.59, placing her in respective sixth and eighth places and places in tomorrow's final events.

Seniors Alexandria Anderson (Moreno Valley, CA/Cal State L.A.) and April Panteau (Long Beach, CA/Long Beach CC) round out the Toros who earned places in tomorrow's event finals as Anderson finished third in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 14.51 while Panteau finished 4th in the 400-meter dash in 57.41.

In the only final of the day for the Toros, freshman Judith Fisher (Chesihurst, NJ/Winslow Township HS) entered the javelin as the only unseeded participant and finished 5th with a throw of 35.23 meters (115'-7"), making her the only freshman in the top 15.

  • 200-meter dash: Stephanie Peoples (28.09, 18th, DNQ)
  • 800-meter dash: Kelly Corall (2:22.92, 9th, DNQ)
  • 400-meter hurdles: Grace Fitchett (65.81, 9th, DNQ), Natasha Kenion (68.78, 12th, DNQ), Alexandria Anderson (70.17, 14th, DNQ)
