Despite claiming its 7th overall California
Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Championship last year and
5th in 8th years, the Cal State Dominguez Hills men's soccer team
was picked to finish second in this year's CCAA Championship
according to a poll of the league head coaches.
Sonoma State, which claimed the 2005 CCAA
Title, received all 10 first-place division votes and four votes
to win the CCAA tournament that decides the league champion. SSU
won the North Division a year ago with a 13-2-1 conference record
en route to a 14-6-1 overall finish. The Seawolves narrowly missed
the NCAA postseason.
The defending CCAA Champion Toros, coming off a
15-7-1 campaign that included an NCAA appearance and led by
2nd-team All-Region senior forward Sammy Rivas (Long Beach,
CA/CS Fullerton), are expected to win the South Division
title. CSUDH received eight first-place division votes and three tournament
champion votes.
Cal State L.A. and UC San Diego each received
two votes to win the CCAA tournament, with the coaches not allowed
to vote for their own team.
