The Bachelor of Arts Degree at California State University, Dominguez Hills requires 120 semester units. The Bachelor of Science degree may require up to 132 semester units. For either degree, a minimum 40 units must be upper division units.

Degree requirements are divided among General Education, a major, a minor (required with most majors), and electives. The General Education curriculum requires 54 to 61 units, including nine units of upper division courses. You must take at least nine units General Education in residence at CSUDH.

Upper division (Junior/Senior) courses are numbered 300 - 499, lower division (Freshman/Sophomore) 100 - 299, and non degree courses are numbered 001 - 099.

Major unit requirements range from 27 to 123 units, depending upon the major. Most majors average 33 units. Most majors require a minor except the following: Applied Studies, Biology (B.S.), Business Administration, Chemistry (B.S.), Clinical Science, Computer Science, Geology (Geology and Physical Science Options), Clinical Health Option, Health Science( Orthotics and Prosthetics Option, Physician Assistant Option, and Radiologic Technology ), Human Services, Liberal Studies, Mathematics, Music (Music Education Option), Nursing, Physical Education (Athletic Training, Dance and Teaching Options), Physics, Public Administration, Quality Assusrance and Recreation & Leisure Studies. Any other major requires a Minor. Minors are usually 15 units or more.

The University accepts a maximum of 70 semester units from community colleges. There is no limit on units from 4 year colleges or universities. However, you must take at least 30 semester units in residence at CSUDH. Of these residence units, at least 24 must be upper division and 12 must be in the major. At least one half the upper division units used to satisfy the minor must be taken in residence at CSUDH.

A total of 24 semester units graded Credit/No Credit (CR/NC) taken at CSUDH or other institutions can be applied to the Bachelor=s degree. The CR/NC units may satisfy General Education requirements, electives, or up to 50% of the units required by a minor. However, all units used to satisfy the major or prerequisites to the major must be taken for a letter grade. The Credit grade is equivalent to a C or better and the No Credit grade is equivalent to a C-, D+, D, F, IC, or WU.

SCHOLARSHIP

Students must have a 2.0 GPA in each of the following areas to graduate: all baccalaureate units attempted in college, total CSUDH units, units in the major, and, if applicable, units in the minor. You must have a 2.0 GPA in each of these areas to graduate. Several majors have additional GPA requirements (check with an advisor).

Grades and grade points are: A (4.0), A- (3.7), B+ (3.3), B (3.0), B- (2.7), C+ (2.3), C (2.0), C- (1.7), D+ (1.3), D (1.0), F (0.0), IC (0.0) and WU (0.0). Grades of CR and NC are not used in calculating GPAs. A 3.5 GPA in 12 units of letter grades for a semester will qualify for the Dean’s List.



SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

The English Placement Test (EPT) is required of all entering students who have not earned a C grade or higher in a baccalaureate level English Composition course. Test exemptions are made based on SAT, ACT, or AP test scores. The EPT must be taken prior to registering for classes. Any required, remedial English course work must be taken the first semester and completed within two semesters of attendance.

The Entry Level Mathematics (ELM) test is required of all entering students who have not met the General Education Quantitative Reasoning (math) requirement. Test exemptions are made based on SAT, ACT, AP test scores or by a C grade in Beginning or Intermediate Algebra course. The ELM must be taken before registering for classes. Any required, remedial math course work must be taken the first semester and completed within two semesters of attendance.

The Graduation Writing Assessment Requirement is satisfied by passing the Graduation Writing Exam (GWE) or by taking an appropriate writing certification course(s): ENG 350, or IDS 397 and IDS 398. Students with 72 units or more must satisfy the GWAR as soon as possible or have a registration hold placed on their records. If transfer students have satisfied this requirement at another CSU campus before admission to CSUDH, contact the Testing Office, WH A-210 (310) 243-3909.

OTHER ITEMS OF INTEREST

It is the student’s responsibility to drop a course. Instructors do not automatically drop students for non-attendance. During the first three weeks, students must drop the course via T.O.R.O.S. @ (310) 243-2000, via TORO Web @ toroweb.csudh.edu, or submit an appropriate drop card to the Admissions Office. Check with an advisor for the procedures to use when dropping a course after the third week of the semester.

Registered students may receive credit-by-examination in many courses. Contact the department office to initiate the process. The units will count for graduation and may be graded with either a letter grade or Credit/No Credit.

File an application for graduation once 100 units are completed. This must be done early in the semester preceding the one in which you intend to graduate. You may elect to meet graduation requirements in effect at the time of admission, or readmission if you have interrupted attendance, or those in effect at the time of graduation.
