MBRS RISE Students Attend Annual Biomedical Research Conference
for Minority
Students
Students
from the Minority Biomedical Research Support and Research
Initiative for Scientific Enhancement (MBRS-RISE) program
attended the Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority
Students, under the direction of Laura
Robles, acting
dean, Graduate Studies and Research (below). Pictured
clockwise at left are: J. Marcus Moore IV, junior,
psychology, Nicole
Ujadughele, junior, biology, Alicia
Bravo, junior,
biology, Mayela Gomez, senior,
biochemistry and Jennifer Olney, senior,
psychology.

" I
was really impressed by the way they accomodated us," notes Ujadughele.
"They didn't sugarcoat anything, and went out of their way to make
sure we knew everything we needed to know."
Bravo, who plans to attend dental school, found the "networking" at the Conference helpful.
"It was very motivating to students who are pursuing goals in these fields," she says.
The MBRS Programs continue to provide biomedical research opportunities for students and faculty, while the RISE Program provides support for 20 undergraduate and 5 graduate students to participate in the biomedical research projects of faculty at CSUDH and the Harbor-UCLA Research and Education Institute. Seminars, workshops and travel to scientific meetings are also provided.
Moore values such experiences for "the diversity of students and the wealth of information."
