Screenwriter and producer Diana Ossana appeared at Claudia Hampton Lecture Hall on the CSU Dominguez Hills campus on Friday, March 3, before winning an Oscar with co-screenwriter Larry McMurtry the following Sunday at the 78th Annual Academy Awards in Hollywood. Her talk, “Is the Success of ‘Brokeback Mountain’ a Sign of the Times?” described the team’s challenges of bringing their adaptation of Annie Proulx’s short story to the screen.

Sisters United: Conference Provides Mentorship and Peer Guidance for Female African American Students

The Cal State Dominguez Hills Queenmothers Society and the Sisterhood of Isis Mentoring Program are sponsoring
“Sisters United: Lifting As We Climb,” a free conference for female African American students on Friday, March 10,
from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Extended Education Complex, Conference Room 1213.

Tongan Americans: First High School Conference Will Encourage Youth to Go to College, Stay
Out of Gangs

The first annual Tongan High School Conference will be held on the Cal State Dominguez Hills campus on March 8, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sponsored by the Tongan American Youth Foundation and the CSUDH College of Health and Human Services, the event will feature successful representatives of the Tongan community, the California Academy of Mathematics and Sciences, and University Outreach in talks and programs designed to encourage the youth to aspire to college and careers while avoiding gang involvement.
