Month of the Alumni: April Salutes Toros and Their Accomplishments

From the original graduating class of four in 1967, CSU Dominguez Hills alumni have increased to more than 55,000 in the last 46 years. President James E. Lyons, Sr. has designated April as the Month of the Alumni,
to be celebrated in its inaugural year with the annual Alumni Association, Inc. Award Mixer, Family Fun Day at Unity Fest, and “Celebrating Our Legacy,” a panel discussion featuring alumni from a variety of career fields.

Unity Fest 2006: Arts and Culture Celebrated at CSUDH

The rich cultural, ethnic, religious, and international diversity on the Dominguez Hills campus and in its surrounding community will be celebrated with a two-day arts and culture festival open to everyone from noon to 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 20 and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 22 on the CSUDH campus.

Head of the Class: How to Get the Most Out of the Education Employment Fair

The CSU Dominguez Hills Education Employment Fair, sponsored by the
Office of Student Development, will be held on Wednesday, April 19, in the Extended Education Complex, 12-4 p.m. The Fair will provide information about job opportunities such as school districts throughout California, Arizona, and Nevada, The Help Group, and Cal/West Educators Placement.

Chris Abani: Award-Winning Nigerian Author to Speak at CSUDH

At the age of 16, Nigerian author Chris Abani was accused of masterminding a political coup because he wrote a political thriller; he was subsequently imprisoned because of the book. He will speak about his award-winning work on April 25 at CSU Dominguez Hills at a reception and book-signing, celebrating his 2004 novel, Graceland, in order to revive the Pat Eliet Lecture Series, held in memory the former professor of English from 1969 to 1990.

Phi Kappa Phi: Record Growth for CSUDH Chapter of National Honors Society

Since its inception in 1897 at the University of Maine, The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi has initiated 1 million members throughout the United States, Puerto Rico, and the Philippines. On March 16, the CSU Dominguez Hills chapter added 96 students, 18 faculty, staff and administrators, and one alumna to that number, joining the ranks of former U.S. president Jimmy Carter, jazz legend Dave Brubeck, and Supreme Court
Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

Twenty businesses from Carson and its surrounding areas attended the CSU Dominguez Hills Athletics Inaugural Business Luncheon last Friday in an effort geared towards partnering Toros Athletics with local businesses.
