New Degree in Biochemistry Gives Students an Extra Edge

A new bachelor’s of science degree in Biochemistry is now being offered in the College of Natural and Behavioral Sciences. Noel Sturm, chair and associate professor, Chemistry Department, says that students studying biochemistry at CSU Dominguez Hills have an extra edge over those at other institutions. Because of the small class sizes at CSUDH, professors are able to offer more individual attention to the students.

Faculty Awards Honor Research and Service

The Division of Academic Affairs, the Academic Senate and the Emeritus Faculty Association hosted the annual Academic Affairs Faculty Awards Reception on Feb. 8, in the University Student Union Ballroom at CSU Dominguez Hills. President James E. Lyons, Sr. and Provost Allen Mori welcomed the campus community, including faculty, deans, and staff.

Allen Mori: Provost Appointed to National Teachers' Education Board

Provost Allen Mori has been appointed to the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education’s board of directors for a three-year term beginning in March. The vice president for Academic Affairs was chosen for the only seat designated for a president or provost on the AACTE board and joins a team of deans, professors, authors, and educators.

Heifetz Memorial Scholarship Honors Champion of Returning Students

At a reception to launch the David L. Heifetz Memorial Scholarship Fund last January, the CSUDH community gathered to remember the chair and director of Interdisciplinary Studies and the Program for Adult College Education. Faculty, staff, current and former students, along with his family, remembered Heifetz' dedication to the returning adult students who populated the PACE program, recalling his commitment to helping them to earn their college degrees despite their absence from an academic setting for many years.
