Tim Farris Assumes the Role of Director of Administrative Information Systems

As the new director of administrative information systems, Tim Farris is responsible for the performance of many of the computers and applications on campus. He maintains the student administrative application, BANNER, and the financial applications on campus. He also manages the operations and programming staff for administrative computing.

His job requires him to keep aware of the latest ideas and new technologies. Using this knowledge, Farris hopes to introduce new projects to campus that will increase and improve services for students. His first initiative is to secure a portal for the university (called Campus Pipeline) that will allow students to easily access their class and record information.

He would also like to make the campus catalog more automated online so that information can be accessed in a quick and easy fashion. To do such, he says, would benefit the entire campus.

Before arriving at CSUDH, Farris was an applications development manager at UCLA Extension. He served in that position for six years. He held the same position at Alan Hancock Junior College for 10 years. Both positions gave him experience in developing enrollment systems, meeting with campus systems users and learning the functionality of various departments in a university campus - experience that will be invaluable as he sets out to create effective computing systems for CSUDH.

His goal is to gain a new level of respectability for CSUDH in the California State University System. He serves on the Information Technology Advisory Committee (ITAC) Committee at the CSU Chancellor's office, meeting bi-monthly with information technology directors from other campuses to discuss recent developments.

Farris also chairs a committee on campus, the Administrative Computing Advisory Group (ACAG) Committee, which reviews and oversees campus administrative computing systems.

Farris, who lives with his wife in Ranchos Palos Verdes, is currently finishing up an executive MBA degree from Pepperdine University. He plays the saxophone and is the assistant choir director at Rolling Hills Covenant Church. He has two children.
