"Clothesline Project" Planned for Abused Women and
their Loved Ones
Carson, CA— Chances are, according to worldwide surveys, anyone who knows three women probably knows at least one who is the survivor of sexual or physical abuse. The Clothesline Project at California State University, Dominguez Hills is aimed especially at that one in three women.
Clothesline is a visual display of shirts designed by women survivors of violence, and by families and friends of victims of violence. Any woman who has experienced such violence at any time in her life, and the families and friends of such victims, can come to the April 17 through 20 event and design a shirt that will then be displayed at future events. It is the process of designing one of the shirts that can give each woman a new voice with which to expose an often horrific and unspeakable experience that has dramatically altered the course of her life, and the families and friends of the victims can design shirts in their loved ones’ honor.
All supplies are provided, there is no cost for participation. Clothesline will be held from noon to 4 p.m. each day.
The event will be held in the large grassy Sculpture Garden at the University. The Sculpture Garden is immediately east of parking lot 6 and just south and east of Lot 3, both accessible from the Tamcliff Street-Toro Center Drive entrance from East Victoria Street. Parking is $3 and parking permits are available from the yellow dispensing machines at the perimeters of the parking lots.
CSUDH is at 1000 East Victoria Street, off Avalon Boulevard between the 91 and 405 freeways, and east of the 110 Freeway via 190th Street, which becomes East Victoria Street
