CSU Dominguez Hills to Host Guitar
Foundation of America
Annual Convention and Competition
Carson, CA –From
Oct. 16 to 21, California State University, Dominguez Hills
will host the Guitar Foundation of America’s (GFA)
2007 International Convention and Competition.
Taking place in the University Theatre,
the event will showcase musicians from across the globe.
It is considered one of
the world’s premier classical guitar festivals and
competitions. CSUDH guitar studies program coordinator, Dr.
Scott Morris, is the convention’s director this year.
“Having the GFA convention here at CSUDH is so exciting
for the guitar program and for the music department,” Morris
said. “I believe this should be a source of pride for
the entire university.”
During the five full days of the
convention, leading classical guitarists from Europe, North
and South America will conduct
lectures and master classes, as well as perform in concert.
The scholarly portion of the convention will take place until
noon, with recitals reserved for afternoons and evenings.
Italian virtuoso Carlo Marchione will kick off the convention
with an opening ceremony performance at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct.
16. A full schedule of events is available online at GFA’s

The competition portion of the convention will feature the
International Solo Competition with cash prizes totaling
$12,750 and a youth guitarist solo competition with cash
prizes totaling $2,800. The youth competition finals on Sunday,
Oct 21, will be open to the public. The semi-finals for the
International Solo Competition will be Friday, Oct. 19, and
Sunday, Oct. 21. There also will be the Youth Ensemble Showcase
on Saturday, Oct. 20.
Individual tickets for performances and the competitions
are available. Prices are either $20 or $30. A pass to the
entire week of lectures and concerts is $285 or $160 for
the weekend only. Convention passes are being sold through

The University Theatre is located off Toro Center Drive/Tamcliff
Street at Victoria Street in the city of Carson. Metered
parking lots are within walking distance. Permits are $3
and can be purchased at yellow kiosk machines near each lot.
