College of Natural & Behavioral
Sciences Hosts
Second Distinguished Speaker Series Luncheon
Metropolitan Water District CAO Gilbert Ivey to discuss water issues
(Carson, CA)— Gilbert
Ivey will be presenting a lecture titled “Is Water the Oil
of the 21st Century? Local and Global Issues Impacting a Vital
Resource” at the College of Natural and Behavioral Sciences
Distinguished Speakers Series Luncheon on Friday, March 28. The
assistant general manager and chief administrative officer for
the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWDSC),
Ivey is a California State University, Dominguez Hills alumnus
(Class of ’75, B.A., business administration).
The luncheon will take place from 11:30
a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Loker Student Union on campus. A question-and-answer
session will
follow Ivey’s speech.
Ivey began working at MWDSC as an intern
while still in school, and in his 35-year career with the water
district, has worked in
nearly every division, including finance, operations, human resources
and the district’s administrative offices. In his current
position, he is responsible for the administrative management of
the district and also serves as the liaison to its 37-member board
of directors.
“Mr. Ivey is responsible for a government agency that oversees
a precious natural resource in Southern California — water,” said
Charles F. Hohm, dean of the College of Natural and Behavioral
Sciences. “Water issues in Los Angeles have always been extremely
important, particularly due to the semi-arid climate and rapidly
increasing population growth. We are delighted that Mr. Ivey has
agreed to speak on this topic.”
Ivey’s selection as distinguished speaker coincides with
the college’s plans to add a new Master of Science degree
program in environmental science, which will address these concerns
as well as other matters pertaining to sustainability.
This semester’s luncheon is being
co-sponsored by the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California
and the Center for Teaching
and Learning at CSU Dominguez Hills. It is free to attend, but
reservations are requested.
