CSU Dominguez Hills Music Department
Presents its Spring Faculty Composition Recital

WHAT: Johnathon Grasse: Faculty Concert Recital

WHEN: Thursday, April 17, 7 p.m.

WHERE: LaCorte Hall A103, California State University, Dominguez Hills, Tamcliff/Toro Center Drive at Victoria Street

(Carson, CA)— The California State University, Dominguez Hills Department of Music presents the spring Faculty Composition Recital featuring the works of Professor Jonathon Grasse on Thursday, April 17, at 7 p.m. in the university’s LaCorte Hall, room A103.

A composer, musician and ethnomusicologist, Grasse joined the music department at CSU Dominguez Hills in 2005. His works have been performed by internationally recognized musicians and by numerous Los Angeles-area quartets and groups. When he’s not teaching or composing, he’s the electric guitarist for the band Surrealestate, which bills itself as an improvisational ensemble.

Grasse’s compositions selected for the Faculty Composition Recital reflect his varied interests in music, from world rhythms to improvisation and instrumental chamber music. All were written in the last three years, including three works that will have their premiere that evening.

Joining Grasse on stage will be Scott Morris and Richard Kravchak, fellow music department faculty members for whom he composed two of the pieces, as well as David Martinelli, Ken Luey and Jeff Schwartz, members of Surrealestate, and other musician colleagues and friends, Phil Curtis, Peter Yates, Buzz Gravelle, Julia Heinen and Dmitri Rachmanov.

The concert is free to attend, but donations to support the music department are welcome.

CSU Dominguez Hills is located in the city of Carson at 1000 E. Victoria St. LaCorte Hall is on the west side of campus off Toro Center Drive/Tamcliff Street. Visitor parking is permitted in all campus lots with a valid parking pass. Day passes are $3 and available at the yellow dispensing machines at the front of each campus lot.
