FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CSU Dominguez Hills Alumnus to Speak at Honors Convocation
Victor Rodriguez, M.D., prominent vascular surgeon for Kaiser Permanente

(Carson, CA)— Victor Rodriguez, M.D., California State University, Dominguez Hills alumnus and noted vascular surgeon for Kaiser Permanente, will address the university’s top students at the annual Honors Convocation Friday, April 18, on the campus.

Honors Convocation is a time to highlight the university’s commitment to academic excellence. The hundreds of students who will be honored that evening are graduating with honors this year, receiving special recognition from their departments, are scholarship recipients, and/or have been inducted into honor societies on campus. The achievements of alumni will also be recognized during the event.

Dr. Rodriguez (Class of ’92, B.S. biology) was invited to be keynote speaker at Honors Convocation because his notable success inspires and demonstrates to students that the education they receive at CSU Dominguez Hills has its rewards.

A graduate of San Pedro High School, Rodriguez transferred to CSU Dominguez Hills after serving in the Marine Corps and attending Cerritos College. The native of Mexico went on to medical school at the University of California, Davis, and now teaches vascular surgery at UC Davis in addition to being a surgeon with Kaiser in Sacramento. He specializes in aortic reconstruction, one of the most complex heart procedures performed. At 43, Rodriguez is comparatively young for a vascular surgeon, and is one of a few Latino surgeons with Kaiser in northern California. He joined the medical group in 2003.

The CSU Dominguez Hills online campus newsletter, Dateline Dominguez Hills, recently profiled Rodriguez. In the article, he credits the support and attention he received from his professors at CSU Dominguez Hills for helping to motivate him throughout his academic career.
