CSU Dominguez Hills Applauds Efforts of
Its Teaching Credential Candidates

WHAT: Credential Program Reception

WHEN: Tuesday, May 13, 5-7 p.m.

WHERE: Loker Student Union, California State University, Dominguez Hills, 1000 E. Victoria St., Carson

(Carson, CA)—Today (Tuesday, May 13), the California State University, Dominguez Hills Teacher Education Division in the College of Education will recognize the hundreds of students who completed the courses and fieldwork necessary to receive their California teaching credential at a reception from 5-7 p.m. in the Dominguez Ballroom at the university’s Loker Student Union.

“Since many of these candidates are earning a credential and not necessarily an academic degree, they aren’t recognized with a graduation ceremony,” said Lynne Cook, dean of the College of Education. “We hold this special event to ensure that they receive recognition for their hard work and excellent performance.”

Some teachers across the state face uncertain times as public schools anticipate potentially damaging budget cuts imposed by the state’s budget crisis. Still, there is a high demand for teachers in many areas, and CSUDH teachers are highly sought after by school districts.

“We prepare a large number of teachers for those high-demand subject areas, such as special education, math, science, and English,” Cook noted.

“They’ve already been rather successful,” added Libby Bergen, multiple subject credential coordinator in the Teacher Education Division, of candidates’ job prospects. “Some do have positions pending in public schools as well as non-public and charter schools. There are positions out there, and more will become available in the fall.”

Approximately 500 credential candidates earn their single, multiple subject and special education teaching credentials from CSU Dominguez Hills annually, making it one of the top producers of teachers in the state. Through national and state accreditation, the university has been recognized for providing excellent preparation of educational professionals. The College of Education offers several pathways for earning teaching, counseling and administrative credentials as well as master’s programs in education.

“ All of our candidates are passionate about what they’re doing. We applaud their achievements today and know they will continue to work hard toward educating the children of this community and beyond,” Bergen said.
