FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CSU Dominguez Hills to Host Town
Hall on State Budget
WHAT: State Budget Town Hall
WHEN:
Tuesday, July 29, 6 p.m.
WHERE: Loker Student Union,
California State University, Dominguez Hills, 1000 E. Victoria
St., Carson
(Carson, CA)— On
Tuesday, July 29 – five weeks into the state’s fiscal
year – California
State University, Dominguez Hills will host a community town hall
on the state budget stalemate with Assembly Speaker Karen Bass
(D-Los Angeles) and local representative Assemblyman Warren Furutani
(D-Carson).
Scheduled to begin at
6 p.m., the event will take place in the Dominguez Ballroom at
the Donald P. and Katherine B. Loker
Student
Union on campus. It will be open to the public.
California began
its fiscal year on July 1 without a budget, as leaders of both
parties grappled with how to bridge the $15.2
billion gap in the $101 billon general budget. With money in
reserves expected to dry up by mid-August, legislators have
said they hope
to reach a resolution and pass the budget soon, possibly by
Aug. 1.
At the town hall, Speaker
Bass – who received her
bachelor’s
degree from CSUDH in 1990 — and Assemblyman Furutani
will address the community and discuss the budget process and
the various
components of the proposed budget currently before the Assembly.
Also present will be individuals representing education, healthcare,
and public safety — all services that face drastic cuts
this year. The public will be invited to ask questions. For more information, contact Assemblyman
Furutani’s main
office at (916) 319-2055, or his district office at (562) 989-2919,
or send an e-mail to assemblymember.furutani@assembly.ca.gov.
